Overview
The QHY268M/C is a new generation of back-illuminated CMOS cameras with true 16-bit A/D and 3.76um pixels. This new Sony sensor is an ideal CMOS sensor exhibiting no amplifier glow. 16-bit A/D gives high-resolution sampling of the whole full well range. Digitizing 0-65535 levels yields a smooth image with a continuous gradation of greyscale levels. The QHY268M/C is a cooled, back-illuminated, CMOS camera based on the Sony IMX571 sensor with native 16-bit A/D and 3.76um pixels.
The QHY268C is a new generation of back-illuminated CMOS cameras with true 16-bit A/D and 3.76um pixels. This new Sony sensor is an ideal CMOS sensor exhibiting no amplifier glow. 16-bit A/D gives high-resolution sampling of the whole full well range. Digitizing 0-65535 levels yields a smooth image with a continuous gradation of greyscale levels. The QHY268C is a cooled colour, back-illuminated, CMOS camera based on the Sony IMX571 sensor with native 16-bit A/D and 3.76um pixels.
Native 16-Bits
The Sony IMX571 sensor has on-chip 16-bit A/D for highest resolution of greyscale. The output is real 16-bits with 65536 levels. Compared to 12-bit and 14-bit A/D, 16-bits provides higher sampling resolution. At high gain, the camera yields close to 1e-/ADU with no sample error and low read noise.
High Dynamic Range
Great full well brings vivid colors. One benefit of the back-illuminated CMOS structure is improved full well capacity. This is particularly helpful for sensors with small pixels. Even with unbinned, the 3.76um pixels of the QHY268C has a superb full well capacity of 75ke-.
Ultra Low Read Noise
- 0.7e- Noise at High gain
- 3.5e- Noise at Low Gain
The QHY268C has only 0.7 electron of read noise at highest gain and 6.8 FPS at full resolution readout speed. One electron of read noise means the camera can achieve a SNR>3 at only 4 to 6 photons. This is perfect performance when conditions are photon limited, i.e., short exposures, narrow band imaging, etc., making this large area sensor ideal for sky surveys and time domain astronomy.
Back-Illuminated, High QE
The back-illuminated Sony Exmor sensor has about twice the QE of similar front illuminated sensors. The QHY268C has zero amplifer glow. In addition the dark current is only 0.0005e/pixel/sec @ -20C.

Let customers speak for us
from 245 reviewsI bought my Dwarf Mini Smart Telescope around two weeks ago and have used it just about every clear night since. It takes less than five minutes to set up and EQ align, so even if I decided to build a more powerful imaging rig in the future, I can see myself still reaching for this scope just for the ease of setup and use alone. So far, I've had success imaging various galaxies, emission nebula, and star clusters, as well as the moon and sun using the included solar filter. The DwarfLab app handles image stacking and makes basic image processing really easy, although you can transfer the files into more powerful processing software if you want. For a tiny scope weighing only 840g and costing less than $1000, this little telescope is capable of some remarkably impressive astrophotography. Andrew from Astronz was incredibly generous with his time and knowledge, some of the best customer service I've ever experienced from any store!
Very powerful for its size. I am quite fearful to use as a night sky pointer. As i live directly under the north south flight paths. I continually checked flight radar and unfortunately, this proved a distraction to my star gazing and polar alignment.
Good product delivered on time with great survive
Fast delivery. Very happy,
Professional Tripod
I buy from AstroNZ mainly because of the friendly expert advice I get when I visit. The products they provide are also quality
Green Laser Pointer (RESTRICTED ITEM)
Great advice, awesome equipment. Highly reccommended
Excellent service and a good quality product. Due to weather conditions ( cloud) i havent been able to put through its paces yet
My Skywatcher 104mm scope had the original single speed focuser so this upgrade has made a phenomenal difference. Not long after ordering, i happened upon a skywatcher 120 and it also had a single speed focuser, amazingly enough, the astronz focuser also fits the 120mm. This is an amazing upgrade, this new focuser is so smooth compared to the old one and also has a longer draw length. Thank you Astronz
5kg counterweight, well packaged and quickly delivered.
Good quality items. The item met my expectations
As a complete novice this is easy setup and go I already have some amazing nebula images
Had a problem with a mount and the Astronz team couldn't have been more helpful in supplying a part (a replacement PCB from their demo model) that I could fit and test. Just outstanding and responsive customer service.
Great design, no more lost thumbs crews!
